Springtime at our farm
What color will they be? Male or female? How will their fleece and conformation look? No one can know the answers to any of these questions for sure. I'm actually glad we can't predict these things, it only adds to the excitement! We have a saying here at our farm, " Every birth is like opening up a wrapped Christmas present! Who knows what's inside?"
Spring also means many other things will be happening. Spring is the time for shearing and all that entails.Spring is also the time when people start coming out to tour our farm and we always look forward to welcoming the many guests to our farm. We've met so many nice people and formed long lasting friendships this way. Of course, spring is also the time for GREEN pastures! I can't wait for the alpacas to once again enjoy some nice fresh, green grass! Spring is also the time when we wean the crias that were born in the Autumn. I actually just did this last Sunday and I have to say it's one of my least favorite duties here. Most of the crias are adjusting well and the moms are all tickled pink!
Spring means different things to different people. I think for the most part, we are all glad to see winter leave and look forward to a season of renewal and a bumper crop of beautiful, healthy crias.
